Editorial of the Chairman
Dear guest,
Children and teenagers are frequently victims of burns. Children especially, those beings so keen to discover the vast world surrounding them, tend to be the most deeply affected.
Burned children need special help. The psychosocial after-effects of this particular kind of serious accident can be extremely difficult to manage. Aware of this problem, we created the Pinocchio association.
I do not need to tell you, I’m sure, how difficult it is to make a burned child start smiling again, to alleviate their deep pain, and to help diminish their constant fear.
Our association has gradually developed to become a structured organisation and we can say that in Belgium, the association holds an important position as regards the support it brings to children who have been burnt. All executive members are committed to bring to bear their own life experience to help these children. Psychologists, nurses, physiotherapists and many others use their spare time enthusiastically to help these young victims.
Our success is proven both by the annual increase in the number of annual supporting members and in donations by companies and service clubs. To a large extent, we owe our success to them. It is quite impossible to survive without this wonderful generosity.
This is why we want to make our activities known to the rest of the world. In addition to our Pinocchio leaflet, we have set up a website to this end. This website will lead you, through different menus, to the objectives and activities of the association.
Consulting our website is already a testimony of your sympathy and compassion. Any contribution, however small, will help put back a smile to a face of a burned child.
